Georg Schlegel GmbH & Co. wins German Design Award 2014
The German Design Award is the German Design Council’s international premium prize, which further enhances the reputation of both designers and companies. The German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centers for communication in the field of design and 60 years of outstanding design expertise set it apart as the host of the German Design Award.
The jury of the German Design Award consists of design experts from different fields; these come from business, education and science as well as from the design industry and are recognized authorities in their area of expertise. Evaluations are based on various criteria such as design quality, degree of innovativeness, brand value, functionality, ergonomics and ecological compatibility.
For a broad design spectrum, the German Design Award 2014 is divided into 10 competition categories. The high-profile committee has now selected 100 outstanding products from more than 1,900 high-level nominations and awarded 10 gold prizes and 90 “Winner” awards.
Georg Schlegel from Dürmentingen received one of the coveted Winner awards in the category of “Industrial Goods and Materials” for their actuators of the Kombitast-R-Juwel series and its variants.
The control units and pilot lights of the Kombitast-R… series for 30.5 mm mounting diameter combine sophisticated functionality and high quality with first-class design and robust elegance. The flat, round actuators are available in three different designs:
- with stainless steel front bezel
- with titanium-lacquered plastic front bezel
- with charcoal plastic front bezel
All actuators are usable for operating temperatures of -40°C up to +70°C; they feature IP ratings from IP66 to IP69K. According to requirements, the actuators can be combined with the well-proven Schlegel contact blocks with screw or spring-type terminals or PUSH-IN connections, thus, covering all common switching functions – from pushbuttons with illuminating and labelling options and pilot lights to toggle, selector and key switches all the way up to mushroom and emergency-stop pushbuttons.
The Kombitast-R…control units and pilot lights are mainly used in trains, ships and commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks, fire engines and agricultural vehicles which are operated in very cold regions. Other “icy” application areas are cold stores, ski-lift installations and snow cannons. Needless to say that the units are also used under “normal” ambient conditions, particularly in cases where a larger touch surface is required.
