Flexitast display button wins GOOD DESIGN AWARD

An international jury of experts has honoured the innovation for flexible machine operation

Good news from America: the electrical engineering specialist GEORG SCHLEGEL has been awarded the prestigious GOOD DESIGN AWARD by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. The award went to the innovative disply button “Flexitast”.

The GOOD DESIGN AWARD is one of the oldest and most prestigious design awards worldwide. An international jury of experts recognises products and design solutions that successfully combine functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. This year, a record number of entries from 55 countries resulted in 1,100 awards being presented across 32 categories. SCHLEGEL received the award in the category “Industrial Products”, alongside 20 other products.

"Industrial machine operation is increasingly evolving into dynamic, networked solutions that can respond flexibly to different situations. The display butotn “Flexitast” is a prime example of this development. We are delighted that the jury has recognised this approach, confirming that we are on the right track,” says managing director Christoph Schlegel.

Flexitast was recognised as a world first in technology. It combines a haptic pushbutton with an integrated ZBD display. This allows symbols, warnings or colour signals to be displayed flexibly. At its heart is a specially developed ZBD display whose image content is retained even without a power supply thanks to the technology used.

Here the chip-on-flex technology is used, whereby the electronics is directly on a flexible cable. This enables to realise a symmetrically narrow edge with a clearly designed, square display. The display button is designed for use in demanding industrial environments. A shatterproof glass panel protects the display. The robust construction ensures long-term functionality. Unlike other technologies, burn-in of the display is impossible.

This is the third award for the Flexitast

SCHLEGEL has a long-standing tradition of focusing on sophisticated product design: the company has won well over 100 design awards. The Flexitast has also received several prestigious design awards, including the Red Dot Award and Focus Open in Gold. SCHLEGEL has also won the GOOD DESIGN AWARD several times for its products.
