Practical career guidance at SCHLEGEL

Eight teenagers visiting the company

As part of their programme, eight pupils from the Federseeschule Bad Buchau school visited the electrical engineering company SCHLEGEL in Dürmentingen on 6th of March. The pupils gained an insight into various apprenticeship roles and everyday working life at the company.

SCHLEGEL is a cooperation partner of the Federseeschule, which is how this visit came about. The pupils were welcomed by trainers Armin Buck and Franziska Müller, as well as production manager Dietmar Schmid. They started by introducing the company and showing the new training and corporate image films.

SCHLEGEL develops and manufactures pushbuttons, switches, and emergency-stop devices for controlling machines and systems, selling them worldwide. During the tour in the production facility, the young people gained a first-hand impression of the company and its products. In addition to visiting the assembly areas, they learned about modern automation solutions and had the opportunity to ask questions about the work processes.

Eight apprenticeship opportunities

There are eight apprenticeship opportunities at SCHLEGEL, and the company also offers four dual study programmes. During the morning, current and former apprentices and trainers introduced the young people to a number of apprenticeship professions: electronics technician for industrial engineering, warehouse logistics specialist, industrial clerk, machine and plant operator, technical product designer, plastics and rubber technologist, and tool mechanic.

The students then had the opportunity to explore individual occupational fields in more depth. Four students learned about the role of an electronics technician for industrial engineering and also got to know a specific workplace. The other four participants gained insights into warehouse logistics and the processes involved.

After around four hours, the visit came to an end, leaving the pupils with many new impressions of professional practice. “It was fun,” said trainer Franziska Müller, thanking the pupils for their interest and their visit.
